I think a lot of this comes down to availability. It took me nearly 3 months to even find a 2017 GTI with a manual. Every single one was DSG and I could even try a manual before making a decision. That and people are too stupid to make up their own minds and ignore “performance” and focus on enjoyment

All German cars understate their HP. M5s and E63s regularly make 600whp out of 550ish power quotes. VW GTIs make 250whp stock. I think they do it so Toyota doesnt feel bad about their pathetic dated engines.

My issue with anything paddle operated (DCT, DSG, Auto, PDK) is that you are turning a mechanical part of the vehicle into a piece of technology. Technology ages like fish and literally ruins every car that relies heavily on it.

Nobody “thinks” they can out perform an 8 Speed.
