I was in architecture school my freshman year of college. I bailed on it because I quickly became frustrated with the fact that I wasn’t doing what I wanted with architecture, I was doing what my very opinionated professor wanted me to do to get a good grade.

In every state you can design a single family residence up to about 3500sf. (YMMV, Hawaii limits a designer house to $50k, above that needs an Architect).
