It’s Still OK to be Catherine

I’m in Tennessee. It’s a conservative area but my city is a little bluer. We actually had a lot more supportive shouts and cheers from the people driving by than you might expect and despite the cold and rain we had a good try out with very few jeers from passerby. But there was one man wearing a confederate flag

“exploiting children as part of their plan to DESTROY the Second Amendment and strip us of our right to defend ourselves and our loved ones.”

One thing led to another — you can call it God’s plan or nature’s plan.

Here’s another option: she could work in and around politics, but not as a “politician”, so to speak. Perhaps someone like Cecile Richards could call her up and say “Hey, Emma. We have an internship with your name on it.” She could honestly write her own ticket and wind up making a huge impact without immersing

Honestly all of the speakers were awesome.

I’m pretty old, but hope I live long enough to see Emma sworn in as President of the United States. Barring that, I hope she just has a long, happy and effective life.

I am so, so, so proud of these incredible young people. It gives me hope for the new generation of voters, law-makers, presidential candidates, teachers, advocates, activities, you name it, they are the future. Emma Gonzales is a marvel. They all are, really. They deserve not only a better future, but a better now.

Growing up a Black woman in this country, I hope she’ll have a chance to be.

This young lady seems the sort that could make genuine marks upon history over her life. There is fire, grit and natural born charisma right there. The selfish part of me wants / hopes she pursues a life of politics as it is the likes of her that can ever hope to affect change in the US - corrupting her would prove

God bless our beautiful, brown babies 😢

Yeah, we’re in deep shit, but we’re also in good hands if she’s representative of her generation.

Naomi Wadler makes me proud of America. Thanks for standing up.

I was proud to stand with 18k of my fellow Minnesotans today at the State Capitol. By coincidence, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school hockey team was in town for a tournament so several students from MSD spoke today, as well as students from local schools. As a childfree Xennial, the speakers gave me hope and I

Christ. Almighty. These kids are so fucking impressive. 11 years old. We are watching the leaders of the future right now.

*This* is how you use the *best* words.

We are in some deep shit when an 11 year old has to slap us upside our collective head to try and make this society better.

The pro-life protestors were...protesting the gun control protest? Of course they were, those fuckers.

My hope is that many of these young people carry on into public service. They remind us that engaged citizenry can make positive change happen.

Properly employed, silence can be powerful. The trick is to take your time and let it fill the space.

There is nothing more difficult than standing in front of a group of people and letting silence be. (I know this from my teaching career...). It’s interesting to see the audience reaction - silence makes people so uncomfortable! Some feel the need to fill it - cheering, chanting etc - until the silence sinks in.
