“ I have more ground clearance in my SQ5 than my Subaru Outback”
The numbers seem to indicate otherwise(?)

That’s definitely a major problem for them offroad, including the manual cars (and the older 4EATs I’d imagine). lack of low range gearing/torque. You’re smoking the clutch or cooking the ATF churning through deep snow/mud/sand and/or climbing uphill.
This is precisely about cashing in on that “gnarly tires and roof basket to park at Whole Foods” crowd, they’re missing out an easy source of revenue.
Agree in full, they’re just writing a check that the cars already can’t cash. CVT aside, even the manuals aren’t cut out for offroad work: they lack the overseas…
Any older Subaru purchase should also account for about $4k give or take for new headgaskets for the EJ25, new wheel bearings, and new CV boots. Throw in some miscellaneous emissions-related CELs while we’re at it.
That’s not what I’d call “ground clearance” and those tires are just waiting to get punched through on a rock.
Those Volvo front ends have a hard enough time lasting to 100k as it is, any sort of offroad/rough road use would shorten it even further.
RWD GMT800 Suburban with a G80 spin-locker
Guy has a motorcycle for local commuting. Out on the open road my ‘06 can return 20-21mpg sticking to state highway speeds/below 70ish. Otherwise it’s 17ish.
I came from a 3rd gen 4Runner so I can relate to the lack of comfort on long drives. I’ve found the Suburban to return…
Came here to recommend a minivan myself. The newer Chrysler vans have about the same ground clearance as a lot of new crossovers, meaty 225/65R17 tires (you can even find a light truck tire that will fit, for extra durability). If you want more ground clearance than that, but still have the minvian…
“smooth ride”
God I hope you’re right about this part. Smooth tires and reasonable sidewall height on a sedan is all I want.
I’m a dyed in the wool ‘yota guy and respect the immense overbuilt nature of the 100 series LC... but as Tracy found out, even these legendary Toyota products need a decent amount of attention as the miles pile up. To a jeep guy, the parts prices will absolutely floor you, doubly so the few Lexus specific bits. Yes…
Apologies, it’s just an unfortunate physiognomy and your politics (fighting/punching imaginary “nazis”) that lead to my assumption.
“make damn sure that person can’t bench press two of you.”
What’s that max bench big guy
“naive dimwit”
...proceeds to talk about Russia
Dude, look in the mirror lmao
I read (parts of) your long winded diatribe, tying in your WW2 vet grandpa and fighting those evil fascists etc.... then I looked at your profile pic.
People are freaking out over Trump, a guy who ran/governed on basically an early 90s Democratic platform (which I think was a decent one). His biggest “mistakes” were trying to shut down some lucrative Middle Eastern wars and to rebalance the (again, lucrative to some in power) trade imbalance.
Frustrating to car guys, but shops get tired of (very typical) scenarios like people bringing in knock-off Ebay coils to “fix” a misfire which could be caused by something entirely different. So if the shop agrees to install your junk coils, which now introduce yet another layer of problems (even more misfires), where…
Was waiting to see if someone else already wrote this. Yeah, what the hell kind of plastic are the Germans (BMW especially) using under the hoods of their cars?
Uh oh, am I dealing with a member of the “Swole left” here?
It’s time to start putting the nerds back in lockers
Yup I’ve had a few 5th gen SR5s as rentals and I agree. Back to higher ground clearance, but still rides vastly smoother than my old 3rd gen, which is basically an ox-cart by comparison lol
EVs using electricity produced by one of the biggest and dirtiest coal burning powerplants in the world lmao
Supercharged 7.3L Godzilla sounds amazing as well tbh. Saw the TFL guys test a Procharger supercharger kit on an F250 with the 7.3L, sounded great and went like stink even with the relatively modest state of tune (524hp). Apparently Whipple has been tinkering as well, and they have a supercharged 7.3L putting down…
