and “offered “no broader explanation.”

Chiming in as a biased European: yes, we do look at the US with a *very* large degree of concern and honestly think your country is turning into an idiocracy. That said, I’m aware that the news we receive is equally biased and cherry-picking may be involved due to our (my) cognitive bias in the matter.

It probably looks like magic to your average Texan.

It’s the eye of the martyr
It’s the thrill of the Right
Rising up to the challenge of our (Supreme Court) trial
And the last known dissenter
Thinks Jesus supports her plight
And she’s watching us all with the eyeeeeeeeeeee ... of the martyr

I think Jim Jeffries put it very eloquently,

After the UK Dunblane Massacre in 1996 which killed 16 kids and their teacher, very strict laws regarding fire-arm ownership was introduced within the year to the protests of pretty much no-one. I think the last mass shooting we had was in 2010. I think everyone in the UK who read about Sandy Hook was thinking “oh

A gun simply will not protect you if you’re caught off-guard, which is generally the only situation in which having a gun at the ready might protect you. When Gabby Giffords was shot, the shooter was tackled by an unarmed man, while a man even closer who had a sidearm instinctively ducked... as anyone would.

Also, he may experience depression. And having a gun in the house when depressed makes for an all too easy suicide.

Even if the laws change, gun culture in the US has to change as well. Outside of people who live in rural areas there’s just no reason to own a gun (I except rural areas because I once saw a rabid fox trying to attack my cousin’s dog on his farm. I’ll concede that his rifle came in handy). It's been proven over and

The only real reason people can give me for being against stronger background checks is that they don’t want the government to know they’re buying guns. If you are wearing that type of tinfoil hat you don’t need a gun anyways.

He would be better off with a good alarm system.

Gun nuts are so fucking scary, you guys. I live in a blue state and went to a gun law forum after Sandy Hook.

Do not give up on this fight. The NRA wants you to believe it is impossible. It is not.

The majority of Americans want to see sensible gun reform. But the gun lobby, and gun nuts branishing their weapons openly intimidate those who speak out. It’s disgusting how much we are terrorized by these people. I for one am fucking sick of being the only developed country with this insane amount of gun violence -

10/10, would watch on TLC

I think Japan, Australia & the UK need to hold an intervention at this point

We care for you. We can’t see you keep hurting yourself like this...”

Why getting a gun to protect yourself doesn't matter: you are not a tactical expert and are not at the ready round the clock. A correctional officer was killed at this home opening the door for what he thought was a pizza delivery. He previously advocated for getting guns for protection.

There was a cover band convention nearby. Casualties include 110 Johns, 96 Pauls, 103 Georges, and 82 Ringos.

“We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual.”
