“Frankly I’m more in favor of locking people like Roof away naked in a cold dark room bereft of any sensory input what so ever, no bed and just a tube that dispenses a foul tasting nutrient paste and water when absolutely necessary.

Yep...and that will most certainly happen, and he will probably end up getting married.

Come on...I’m not crediting Clint Eastwood for saying that any more than I credit Yoda for saying “Do or do not”, yet he (or his character William Munny) said it. It’s to prove a point.

You can’t really control who believes someone is a martyr. Who is to say he won’t be a greater threat or a greater cause celebre for the White Supremacist movement while he’s in prison?

Except he probably won’t be in solitary for the rest of his life. He may be there for a long time, but he will eventually be put in the general prison population, decades from now, when people have forgotten about him, and he will get to *live*. Maybe a meager prison existence, but he will have *life* which is more

I got the point of Unforgiven. It was a movie about revenge and how it hurts a person.

I disagree. No form of justice is perfect. If you wanted to set aside a special type of crime, one where the the crime was not only done “beyond a reasonable doubt” but where the criminal even admits it freely in court, and apply executions only to those cases, I’d support that, but anti-capital punishment folks

It’s expensive only because anti-death-penalty people make it that way. It’s not the fault of people who support the death penalty that it’s expensive.

And yet strangely, we imprison people for false imprisonment, and we “kidnap” people (ie., arrest and take away) people who have kidnapped others. Your logic falls flat here. “The punishment should fit the crime” is not the same as saying a person should be punished in the same way they have committed the crime.

No, he should die. As Clint Eastwood said, “It’s a hell of a thing, killin’ a man. You take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.”

I’m also from San Francisco, checking in...except I am visiting Chicago next Thursday, where the high is supposed to be 9 degrees. I am not sure what I will do. This article was actually helpful.

This one is the best. Apparently no height limit to bases!

I do though. He is 100% correct.

You did not pay attention. He REPEATEDLY said not everything that would be in the game would be in the game at launch.

Well then if it is Sean Murray, I’m glad you are finally paying attention to what he actually said, since he repeatedly said initially that not everything would be in the game at launch, but that stuff would be added in later. Were you not paying attention?

This made me chortle.

Bullshit. There’s no statute of limitations on genocide. It’s one thing if it was a member of the Wehrmacht, but to be an actual Nazi, you joined the party, and the vast majority of them were responsible in some form for the atrocities of the Holocaust. If that means going into a Brazilian nursing home to drag out

As fivethirtyeight.com said, don’t read too much into early voting. 75% of folks still vote on election day.

The fact that she didn’t make that nuanced argument when he demanded she call him one seems to make the point that she lost the debate. Saying “You have some anger issues” or that he was acting “defensively” is not how to win an argument. Saying “We’ve covered that” is not the best way to respond to Newt’s argument
