I’m assuming you saw the film. In your heart of hearts, you wanted the fates they’re showing us for the original characters? It couldn’t have been handled with a bit more dignity?

I hear you. I’m not sure that wanting TFA to be more original is as hypocritical as you’re implying, though.

Still, my main issue is the disrespect to the original characters. It’s as though all of their struggles were for nothing. Seeing them recast as depressed cowards was tough for me.

I feel like one of the reasons I’m voicing my concerns is I’m bummed that I can’t enjoy it like the vast majority. Maybe time will ease the bummer of seeing all of my favorite characters depressed shells of their former selves and I can appreciate the plucky new characters the originals were sacrificed to serve. Right...

Agreed. I’d love to be eating crow with Episode 8.

It doesn’t bug even a little that all the original characters have been recast as depressed cowards (even R2!!!)? I left the theater melancholy, and wishing they’d left it alone. But I get it’s not for old fans, but a new generation. I’m happy they’re enjoying it.

I agree that it’d at least be original. I guess everyone wants him to be tiny, though.

It’s crazy how threathened by dissent NuStarWars lovers are. Like, 99.9% of the world loves it. A few people thought it was a retread with an unbeatable protagonist, and thought it was a little off. I’m one of them.

Silver lining: Maybe the sequel will flip the script, and we’ll see a dark side character’s

I agree that Rey isn’t exactly a Mary Sue character. I feel like a lot of the use of the term is that she’s unusually perfect for a Star Wars hero. She runs through the film largely unopposed and capable (better than Ren at the force, Han at piloting the Falcon, etc) It’s not necessarily a bad thing, just much

This would’ve been more fun with the roles reversed. Imagine Hart playing the hard boiled bad ass and Johnson the terrified desk jockey (who admittedly does cross-fit).
