I think the advertising can only go so far though, Facebook needs some sort of solid money making model. There seems to be a very fine line between advertising and annoying people so much they stop checking their facebook.

Facebook has a Twitter obsession right now. It remains to be seen whether that will be fruitful or unfounded.
For someone who wants Facebook interaction to be mostly front-page interface, I can't imagine this being ideal. Yeah, it does bring more info to the front page, but in a way that is new and will overwhelm.
But, yeah, for the sometime user, this will be bad.
