You mis-read that. The artist tagged Volvo not the other way around. That’s also not how US copyright law works. As someone who has won a lawsuit from a company stealing my photos from instagram, Volvo is going to lose this so fast.

I think they’re trying to say that if you take a picture of your car and post it to Instagram, that automaker should automatically be able to use your photo for whatever they want since it’s their car, or “IP”.

public domain and public display are two separate things, posting on IG is public display. renounces your rights as copyright holder is putting it in the public domain.
