First off, why is Ms. Serena Williams’ name even in his mouth? Was one of his players playing her? Are they mutual acquaintances? Did they pass each other on the street? Secondly, what is that even supposed to mean? Like, if you’re going to come with a slam, you better come correct. That was some weak ass shit.
We’ve been here before. All these fuckboys think they get to define, redefine, and define again, for the fifty-eleventh time, what constitutes racism. Surely whatever word he said won’t fit into that definition.
If Serena had ripped him apart and called him out for being a raging bigot and asshole it would have been fine, but her measured, strong, well crafted statement was even better. Way to take the high road and bury him nonetheless.
This is nothing new for Nastase. He threw a few slurs at Arthur Ashe during matches against him “way back when.”
You’re working very hard to stay ignorant.
You’re gonna get like, 50 replies now about how the “real racism” here is directed towards white people :/
Murdering murderers to show murder is bad.
For the record, I don’t give a damn about what products white people use in their hair. If that is your takeaway, then you’ve missed the point. Also, I cannot speak for other black people in Kinja, but I am not your ‘black people whisperer’. To the plethora of racists leaving comments, surely you have better things to…
You actually seriously just wrote “Just be quiet and take whatever they give you because complaining won’t do anything.” Or, worse, “Well, just give up this product you’ve loved and supported, that has new if any replacements, tough luck for you.”
From what I’m reading in the comments, the issue isn’t that they’ve included white women in their adverts, it’s that this new campaign appears to be catering to white women while almost completely excluding the women who have been using this brand for years.
This isn’t about you! Let it go!
I find it weird, if they want white women with curly hair to know that we can use the product, that they used straight-haired white women in the advertisement. If they want to expand into DevaCurl’s market, I am baffled by this commercial from that standpoint as well.
1. Not a bad apology. Now they need to make good
But not one darkskin woman with 4c hair texture? That in itself is telling. When will these companies learn that it is okay to have a niche market - especially if that community brought you up from the shadows. And to the people saying it is common business practice to expand wider: why is the visibility of white…
Did you play that first video up top? Because the commerical starts out with the white woman with straight blonde hair.
To be fair, when I first saw the blond woman’s hair, it looked super weighed down to me. Like, why is she in this commercial? Her hair looks a bit greasy.
Yeah if they are changing product formulations so they work better on white people and consequently work less well for AA people, that is totally not cool and also, WHY? Why undermine the trust of your core customers? Just create a different line.
