I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say he was satirizing the people who defend the term over trying to be a dick to you.

If a person is condescending, does that make them a mansplainer? If a man gives a condescending explanation to a woman, is he mansplaining?

Came here to say this. I enjoy AV club and I enjoyed this review, but can we drop this tired and ineffective word already? Regardless of its actual definition, it's lost what little value it had in the first place.
