The problem is that when you continually kill off interesting supporting cast you always have to return to the central premise which in itself, can only have so many permutations. A show loses it’s growth and richness. It also I think loses any linearity or sense of ‘actions have consequences’ as it is always looping…
Try Unfinished Tales or The Children of Hurin if you haven’t already. They are much more fleshed out.
