You are ignoring the “trickle down” effects of a very robust (and post-Xbox One likely 100%) backward compatibility.

The Switch actually has a nifty feature for just that. T allows you to update a game from other local users. So if you know someone who has the current version, you can link systems on download the patch data from them in case you can’t connect to Nintendo.

Post-launch revenue has to come from somewhere if you want to keep your game running for years on end, but I dislike loot boxes with cosmetics. It’s predatory (especially the time-critical event boxes).
