Yeah I miss it as well. It’s a very ergonomic controller (as long as you don’t play Smash Bros on high level with it) and very intuitively laid out.
Sony basically shipped a faulty PU, now they are making a new version of the headset and PU, but CHOOSING to make the new PU incompatible with the old headset. At least it should have been compatible, since all they really changed was the shape of the plug

Well the problem with Street Fighter IV was that they never anticipated it to take off like that and the game just didn’t have the program hooks in it to be expanded.

The lack of HDR pass through was dumb in the first place. And it sounds like the cables are the same, just slimmer, so they could easily have let you use the new PU with the old headset, and frankly, they should even offer a free trade-in for the PU, so dumb was the lack of HDR pass through.
