I’d call it Insta-Gram...but that one is taken.

California writing a 1/2 baked law? You don’t say!
The problem is not the book rate system it’s that you worked for a shit shop.
You have free will, you can go work for a different shop that listens to you when you say a car is going to be a disaster. We’d adjust prices accordingly or tell the customer that due to the condition (rust) of the vehicle we’d have to charge…
That’s what I’d be doing. Offer awesome deals on turn ins and get people out the door in new cars.
This is in part why Unions have taken such a big hit. They’re looking out for themselves not their members. Sometimes looking out for your members means looking out for the employers. Without their long term financial health it’s only going to hurt your members.
The unions got greedy and look what happened.
If everyone can make book then book was an over estimate.
Set book time at the 2 sigma performance for the average tech. If 67% of techs can get the job done in that time frame that’s a reasonable estimate.
The system is not broken, it has been this way for almost 100 years. I ran a shop on this system, my guys made bank beating book.
It’s not a salary job, if you want a salary job you’ll have a ton of guys drop out of the industry because then there’s no incentive to work quickly. They’d take a 30%+ pay cut.
It’s only a…
No, that’s not how it works.
You’re doing piece work. If you’re paid to weld 100 pcs you get paid for 100 pcs no matter how long it takes. If you’re cutting grass you get paid per lawn to matter how long it takes.
Mechanics are not hourly workers.
This whole book time thing is confusing you. Most skilled mechanics do…
You misunderstand how this works. It’s piece work.
Historically book times were padded. Now they’re getting tighter and tighter, I’ve not run a shop in a decade so I’m a little out of touch with current trend. I’d love some more current info from people in the field now.
The book time is for a skilled tech with the right tools and knowhow, it’s a gold standard so to speak. Think of it less as you can finish in X hours and more like you’re getting paid X for this job. How long it takes it up to your hussle and skill level.
Book time has been around in one form or another since the ‘20s. For nearly a 100 years mechanics have been paid with the method.
The method is fine, it incentivises techs to be efficient. Some jobs you get good at and beat book, others are a bear and you take a little longer. You need to understand your income will…
Trump is not a Republican, people need to understand that.
This shit is getting out of hand.
Jalopnik is really going down the tubes. I can hear the sucking sound from here.
Ballaban, you not thinking about what you’re writing.
You’ve been to supercharger facilities no? You realize all the back end equipment is what takes up the space not the pole itself. That electrical equipment has NOT been scaled down.
This is an improvement but nothing revolutionary.
It comes from both rod geometry, the different characteristics of diesel combustion AND the ability to run high boost at low RPMs and high loads because LSPI is NOT an issue.
It’s not just turbo=low RPM torque.
My guess is a home brew hydrogen generator.
That info is coming from internal engineering and calibration. It’s not that the cooling system overheats it’s that they need to aggressively pull timing/boost to keep intake air temperatures in check.
I suspect the turbos will be short lived in that application.
I’ve driven both extensively, I had to seriously disagree with you. The softer suspension is not the massive advantage you claim it to be, I F 150 rides beautifully compared to trucks of even 5 years ago.
I strongly disagree, the Raptor is much worse on road. It’s massive, has limited towing capacity and is harder to work out of.
