I think that would be very unrealistic. She's still a teenager. Philip and Elizabeth did not do missions as teenagers. The closest thing they've got to that is Tuan who is a professional agent with training and I assume is pretending to be younger than he is. But even if not, he's a professional. Paige's spy career is

Nitpick: Paige is actually 16.

Yeah, there are times when Pastor Tim has been my absolutely least favorite character—doesn't mean I don't get that he's objectively not as bad as the two murderers. I think it's natural in a story like this to dislike annoying characters more than bad ones. It's like if you say you're annoyed by Jehovah's Witnesses

Right, I was trying to interpret what Paige was reacting to it right now based on other stuff in the eps. Since she seemed to present it from the start as being worried that Pastor Tim said she was really messed up, and her parents seemed to take it that way since they were telling her no, you're not screwed up, he

Elizabeth fought a big battle there in "Trust Me."

Holly Taylor just has a last name that alphabetically comes after Sellati.

My point wasn't that it would reveal their identity but that they don't want people to notice them wearing new wedding rings and them giving a cover story. It's not for public show. Though yes, also it would be second nature to them to not do anything that was evidence of their secret life because they're just that

True, it has always been the gulf. But I think there's a lot of examples showing that when push comes to shove Elizabeth actually does choose family. She begged Philip to let Gregory die his own way. She wanted Pastor Tim kept alive. She didn't give Jared's mother's letter to him when she thought it would hurt him.

That wouldn't be done that way. They would contact each other via the phone service. That's how the priest contacted Philip. The Rezidentura is going to stay far away from the schedules of Illegals.

Right—I think the show's very intentionally using this as just an exaggerated version of every kid growing up. First you see your parents as just your parents. Then you see them as people beyond you and at first it can seem like a betrayal. But the challenge for the kid is to get to understand them on their own terms.

It was an intentional contrivance on Paige's part. She wanted them to read the words.

What with the secret wedding with Father Andrei the story really is looking very Romeo and Juliet. Of course they're both committed to the same side of the "feud" etc., but the greater theme of "love grows and survive over hate" is there.

Yeah, I feel like him lying that much might have made it seem to Paige that he'd given up on her. If he really thought she was struggling with this stuff, why not talk to her about it? It wouldn't rob her of hope for him to say, "I think we should talk about lies and deceit since it must be confusing" or whatever. By

Yes, also it's important to remember this isn't the renewing of wedding vows. It's a proposal and a marriage. The first marriage for both, and one done under their real names. It's almost like a do-over (though of course there's no such thing).

I think someone might definitely notice they were wearing new wedding rings.

Yup, and reported back that Tim was "annoyed" that she didn't trust Alice, as if he was saying "Who are you to tell me my wife can't keep a secret?"

But you don't need to have bad intentions to be deceitful. If Paige's focus is on lying, then he is lying. For perfectly valid reasons, I agree. But what she's seeing is someone telling her one thing to her face that they appear to totally not believe in private. (I say appear because what he wrote in the diary might

Wow, that totally does look like the same jacket at least, and whatever else she's wearing is very similar. Great catch!

Oh, I was agreeing with you. I think she did take it as a betrayal when he told his wife and his parishioners would feel that way too.

He's not Catholic and he didn't feel obligated to keep her secret from his wife. He sees her as an extension of himself but I'll plenty of his parishioners would be pissed off to know that whatever they told Pastor Tim went to his wife as well. Paige certainly was.
