This is usually not a good idea, because it will change the entire tone of the negotiation. This is a tactic that you only use as a last resort, when all else fails, and when you are willing to walk away if you don't get a significantly better offer.

One plan is to hit up a place with endless salad, bread, whatever, and actually go with the endless item for your "first meal" then simply get the entree to go. I've done this before, and pasta heats well enough, so it usually works out well.
