I purchased 3 new BMWs in 5 years, I won’t be buying any more while this is their design language.  So while they are all excited about 20% of people liking the new design language, they are going to be losing regular customers in droves, the ones that actually bought vehicles.

They don’t actually deter, what they do is require 100% payment on any options above a certain threshold when you lease.  They know they will not make money back after a certain point on CPO lease returns.  Problem is solved by purchasing instead of leasing.

I bought my first (and only used) car when I was 19 years old.  This was in ‘97 and it was still $6300.  I was making $20,000/year at my job at the time, but that was still 31% of my income.  Cars, decent cars, haven’t been cheap for a long time. 

I agree with you the average person probably cannot tell the difference in driving dynamics.
