There’s a lot more diligence to the process of being able to get and drive a car than there is to getting a gun.
There’s restrictions on knives already in place. You can’t walk around with a sword, for instance.

Its a percentage thing. We have significantly more deaths per capita due to guns than every other first world country. Cars and Knives aren’t weapons with only a single purpose. Guns have only a single use: ending a life. Whether their use is justified or not is another matter.
