This really is the biggest tragedy of it all.

Worst than that, 50 years later we still don’t know what’s at Area 51! But soon, very soon....

But it helps.

Deserves more moons

I’m just a passerby who had to log in to star your comment

Fun fact; Porsche detuned the 924S engine because otherwise it would be faster than the otherwise identical 944 because of its lighter weight and a smaller frontal area. The final year - 1988 - got the same tune as the base 944, with the predicted result...

The Rx7 “Savanna” literally the perfect vehicle to turn into a Safari rally car. right down to its name!

Could they have even known that their mission would directly influence the design and development of the C8 Corvette?

This is a great safari build.  Plus, I’d feel less guilty about safari-ing up a 924 than I would an RX-7 (and less worried about fixing it).

In the sixties we could put a man on the moon, but it took another SIX DECADES before GM could figure out how to put an engine behind the driver*

And worst of all, they would have to wait fifty years before the Corvette C8 was released.

Thank you for showing some love for engineers David. As a former engineer (now nurse), I always felt we never got enough credit for the work we do, in any industry. It’s always the execs, the managers, the marketers, and the finance folk, but never the engineers.

Augie Pabst, Zora, and Roger Penske, likely in the early 1960's.

This is a good article. I started reading car magazines in 1961 and, IIRC. I first read about the upcoming mid-engine Corvette soon  after that. After several decades of waiting, I will actually believe that it is here when I actually see one, but it looks like it is real this time.

so, there is hope?

As usual, you’re wrong. I would absolutely eat the hell out of whatever vegan free-range single-origin taco cupcakes come out of that. (Okay, maybe not cupcakes. Cupcakes are trash.)

Hell, the Cayman is feelin the heat.

I am freaking the fuck out

Starting price at less than $60k.... Consider the game changed.
