“And I know that I would not be where I am without any of the pain I’ve endured. I know that, if I had gone through life without anything in the way of suffering, I would be less of a person.”
“And I know that I would not be where I am without any of the pain I’ve endured. I know that, if I had gone through life without anything in the way of suffering, I would be less of a person.”
The fact that it too so long to wonder why a young woman, with no income noted, to own a brownstone in NY really bothered me. Enjoyed most of the rest of it.
Anyone who uses their middle initial in all their communications is pompous until proven otherwise.
Why would anyone want to be a referee? Even if you don’t get smacked around it seems like such a thankless job.
Except that all those people who should “vote their conscience” don’t all want the same thing. That’s the fallacy. Be they progressives, radical christians, facists, or communists; if they all nominated their candidate that matched their ideals 100%, we would have 15 candidates to vote for in November, and thus more…
I realize this won’t be a popular opinion here, but for all his faults I do enjoy his show and listen most days. He has insights that I think escape most sports talking heads and has an appreciation for life outside sports that I think is missing from the podcast “airwaves”. Not saying he’s perfect, but I’d rather…
Sexism is “prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender.” I am describing a very real situation in our society, I am neither being prejudicial or discreminatory. If anything, I am describing a problem that is the result of sexism.
Nope; it’s not an assumption on the wives’ abilities. It’s a observation of how in our society decision making and management is ceded to the husbands on these issues, and as a result the wives often don’t have visability or knowledge of the financial status of the family.
I do an annual “presentation” to my wife of our finances, both spending and investments. I showed her a few horror stories from the web about wives who didn’t realize that their husbands were blowing all the family money, it motivated her to pay attention.
My wife and I have had a joint bank account for 20 years, and it’s been great. We like the idea that our purchases are in the context of what are best for the both of us, and I think cuts down on the irresponsible spending.
I would suggest the opposite; both parties should be aware of the financial situation and progress of the household. Having all the financial management and bill paying in one person could lead to a situation all to common in male-female marriages, where the wife has absolutely no idea what’s going on.
“There’s nothing in the sports fan rulebook that says you HAVE to be miserable for the rest of your life. Don’t listen to Vikings fans like me, or Browns or Bills or Cubs fans who all flaunt their misery as a perverse symbol of pride.”
I don’t understand your comment or your anger. The shoulders and edges of roads are not designed to be driven on continuously, but are part of the road. Cars use them when they need to. Sidewalks are designed for pedestrians. When runners use the road they often put the drivers in difficult positions, more so when…
I’m a runner, but sometimes my fellow runners can be annoying in that they don’t hug the curb when the run, so cars can’t pass on the more narrow streets, or run in groups of 2-3 abreast, rather than in a row. They also don’t always wear reflective gear at night. If there is a sidewalk I almost always run on it, and…
It’s not an oligarchy because anyone else is free to start up a rival league and run it as they like. Demand and capitalism will determine whether that is successful or not. Would it be difficult? Sure, but these particular owners would no longer be in charge. Also, the salary cap doesn’t drive down salaries, it puts…
That’s the nature of any capitalist society, not sure what else you would expect. If Kaepernick was perceived as a better QB, then there would be more demand for his services and the amount employers “could get away with” would be higher.
I appreciate all the advice. Perhaps some of the men do get worked up about their partner orgasms and their ego. But I bet more men obsess about them because a) it’s hard not to feel selfish when you orgasm and she doesn’t, and b) there is the perpetual stereotype about the awful men who just get their rocks off and…
My brother in law had no particular allegiance to his own last name, so he changed it to be the same as his wife’s (my sister). He seems quite happy about it.
Yes, I agree completely, institutional racism is a dangerous and evil thing as well, and perhaps is what the author was trying to get at. But no one gets carte blanche to be racist because of some perceived or real lack of “power.”
I’m not sure who is in charge of “validating” things. Acknowledging that racism against all people, regardless of race, is something our society should strive to do away with doesn’t invalidate the experience of those who have suffered the most. Rather than trying to draw lines between those who have suffered a little…
