Here’s another thought. What about by-passing the whole LA metro area by diverting up to Bakersfield before going over to that coast. The route is longer but almost certainly would be faster, right???

My parents were out of town, so my friends and I took the elderly family Plymouth Valient to the beach, one state away in Cali. I think we were 17-19 years old. About that. They never found out about it, to the best of my knowledge.
