Actually, the LT with the 1.4t was a fun little runabout. Very chuckable, torque rich, inexpensive, and fit 4 adults no sweat.

Might as well get all the TruCoat jokes in now:
I’m going in a non-brand specific direction and stating that the worst hot hatch is any car with an automatic transmission. No matter how lowly a manual car is, you can still thrash the sh*t out of it for some entertainment value. And if it’s a generally sucky car, that just means that you can get them cheaper.…
I agree 100%. Anything that makes an economy car a little more fun to drive is a good thing.
It also included lowered and stiffer suspension, different gear ratios, flat-bottom steering wheel, different fascias, seats, etc. So, not, not just black wheels. But also not a ton else either.
There is clearly much more to this story. I’m guessing the guy used identity theft or straw buyers to “purchase” the vehicles and planned to load them on containers and export them just hadn’t gotten them out yet. Although dirty from sitting in the yard they are all obviously new and were acquired for a reason.
I can’t call a vehicle that uses 9k lbs of natural resources a win for the environment. This is better than an F350, but that’s like saying Pol Pot is better than Hitler. If this is where we are going with EV’s we haven’t learned a damned thing.
At some point we will have to do this in some shape or form. Heavier vehicles result in more wear on the roads. As EVs start to make up a larger portion of the vehicles on the road, we are going to need to increase spending on road maintenance (or suffer increasingly shittier road conditions).
It’s the mass / weight. Vehicles are getting bigger and heavier and more dangerous to just about everyone else on the road (or next to it). That most of these will be used a grocery getters is atrocious for the amount of resources going into it.
Each Hummer EV has enough battery capacity to power what, 3 Bolts?
Suspending the gas tax is the move with the smallest real upside compared to the greatest theatrical appearance of an upside, which is exactly why it’s the only thing that will be done.
I’ve owned two Corvairs, but I don’t hate Nader. He got a raw deal on the pushback from his actions, which never actually killed the Corvair - the car lasted until gas got cheap enough that it wasn’t selling. And having owned two Corvairs, I can tell you he wasn’t totally wrong. The ‘60-’63 model had a turn-in issue…
Land Rover must employ several full-time hypnotists to haunt the wealthy neighborhoods of North America. There is no better explanation for the perseverance of the brand because those cars suck, period, and there is no way for a person who knows one or more Land Rover owners to avoid hearing horror stories.
The 1964-1972 American muscle car era was peak awesomeness for Detroit iron. The sounds, the smells, the chrome, the lines - all better than anything we have gotten since.
That was teenage stupid above and beyond. Asking WTF were they thinking would be pointless. At least Lowering the Bar gets to chalk up another failed aquatic escape attempt.
Just commenting here to say this is good Jalop--thanks for excellent car related content.
The one dealer in Colorado has no inventory, of course.
