In NE Ohio, freeway = Interstate (e.g. I-90, I-271, I-XXX, etc.). It is a “free way” you drive on without paying a direct fee to do so, as opposed to a toll road like the Ohio Turnpike.
“Exhaust manifold” is also American-correct. It specifies the cast iron parts that channel exhaust gases—usually low-cost heavy stuff that the manufacturer slaps on the car to get it out the door as cheaply as possible. While “exhaust header” signifies steel/stainless steel/titanium tubes fabbed into the more…
shifters are more commonly referred to as gear shifts
“Anti-roll bar” is more often called a “sway bar” here.
Great article. This is another example of how vigorous regulation is required to combat loopholes created by “best government money can buy” industry lobbyists. From the link:
leasing allows you own own a really unreliable car while maintenance and repairs are covered by the dealer.
A CPO vehicle would be a far smarter purchase
Before retirement, I was putting about 6500 miles/year on my DD. Now, it’s more like 3K/year. My 2013 Sonic hatchback just turned over 50K miles about a month ago.
To me the real-life feedback of how a car is to live with should be leaps and bounds more important than some nebulous “reliability” figure that is generally pointless anyway with everything under warranty and people trading in ASAP these days.
In modern terms, it seems astounding that they would brag about 18 MPG, but that was respectable at the time. I kinda, sorta remember that my ‘69 Firebird 400 got about 14 MPG. Fast forward to 2004 and I decided that a car that got only 20 MPG (like our ‘98 Grand Prix GT Coupe) was absurdly low, just to haul around…
I am a lifelong resident of the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area so I’ve driven through a lot of “lake effect” snow. In my younger days with old RWD cars, you got a pair of snow tires for the rear end only in the winter. From 1998-2010 my wife drove a FWD Pontiac Grand Prix with all-seasons, and from 2004-2012 I drove a…
Thanks for your compliments about my beloved minty low mileage Millenium Yellow C5Z, but:
Aren’t EVs all just using a skateboard of batteries and one or two electric motors at the wheels? Where is the need for innovation when we could just have a standard, and then how do any of these brands think they’ll differentiate from all the others?
I am endlessly amused by the stupid “rivalry” between Ohio State and whatever Michigan university is located in Ann Arbor (“M go blue” on many bumper stickers here in Ohio). Whereas the reality is that our own fine university CWRU here in the Cleveland area https://case.edu/ is at least as good as either one of them.
I belong to an Odyssey owners online forum, a Fit forum, and another one for Chevy Sonic owners. There’s probably an owner’s forum out there for any vehicle.
I’d like to have a word with her, too.
Good catch. Given that the odometer shows 000000 miles, I’m guessing this is a photo taken of a preproduction mule while the dash firmware was still under development. Like in early 2011 someone in Marketing went to Engineering and asked for a photo of what the dash looks like lit up at night.
I’ve taken humble cars like the PT Cruiser or Focus wagon onto the strip. If I’m gonna make the drive, I’m gonna run my car just to see how good I can do just for fun.
We need... Information.
