I had a similar ‘78 Pontiac Sunbird hatchback, green with a tan interior. It was my “Nice summer car that never saw snow” from 1978 to 2004. 231 V-6 and 4-speed. Modded with a Hurst shifter, powder-coated Vega GT wheels with Pontiac center caps, a posi carrier out of a Monza GT, and a Trans Am steering wheel.…
Every once in a while, with no warning, all the interior lights would start flashing randomly and the chime would ding over and over.
I bought my 2004 C5 Z06 in August 2012 with 18K miles; a Z06 because it had significantly more power (405 vs 350 HP, a 16% increase) with the lightest (and to me, the most attractive) body style compared to lesser C5s.
100,000 miles is basically prime territory for getting rid of a car prior to it needing the really big services that most cars get around 120,000 miles
Start your car to warm it up, turn on the defrost, go clear it off. Wipers will be melted free by the time you’re ready to go
The whole gray thing sucks. I would surely like my comments at Gizmodo/Earther to be visible to all, but alas, I am still grayed out there.
Hello fellow Clevelander! You used to post as ThundercatsAreGo, yes? My wife prefers their almond butter, but almonds are in focus now due to the great Western USA drought. https://www.paesta.psu.edu/podcast/how-much-water-does-it-really-take-grow-almonds-paesta-podcast-series-episode-43
4) Fresh ground in store brand. Heinen’s (Cleveland, Ohio area small chain) has peanut, almond, walnut, and cashew butters.
...back in the 1980s when the McDonald’s Quarter Pounder was the burger to beat, A&W had the great idea to debut a 1/3 Pound Burger at the same price as a Quarter Pounder... In focus groups following the disastrous launch of the 1/3 Pound Burger, customers indicated that they thought 1/3 pound of meat was smaller…
It really is as simple as Americans didn’t know 1/3 was bigger than 1/4.
Lifelong Northeast Ohio resident here. The current plate is much better than the previous blue, white, yellow, and green monstrosity. The new plate is just as bad as that one with its mishmash of colors and themes. As another commenter pointed out, you don’t see the background words in the current plate from a…
I’m sad to see that after a day, this article has 1/10th at best the number of comments as many articles at Jalopnik. I’ve been a car guy for decades, but the need to stop burning fossil fuels is obvious.
Sorry, I should have stated:
I’ll always say “GTI” for people in your situation, especially if interior is the priority. The GTI is a really nice place to sit given the price point, especially if you want something a little weird
Under warranty and unmodified I’d say there’s no more to worry about than most other makes (they’re not Hondas though). Out of warranty and heavily modified like me and you’re just asking for problems.
Neutral: My VW (a 2016 manual Golf R) runs fine and makes a lot of power, but is starting to suffer from VW electronics...
Consumers can easily walk into a dealership armed with enough information to purchase the car they want...
The majority of VW upkeep cost is the DSG and AWD services. The manual is fairly cheap to service.
If the records show evidence of consistent but light use vs. sitting for long periods, it’s more than likely a legit grandpa owned unicorn that somebody will get some good use out of.
