I live about an hour and a half away from Flint Michigan. It raises a bunch of red flags for me when a GOP state government says that they have to save a predominantly Black city from themselves.

Interesting that in that report, all the long term debt they show was issued in 2001, 2007, and 2008. Not having debt issued more recently implies that they have been getting their house in order. Over 2/3 of their long term debt is in “business-type activities” which includes utilities. I’d be stunned to find any…
Ford isn’t going to do anything.
And yet the state comptroller is justified in his openly racist witch hunt. Huh.
Translation: “Before you write an article, you should probably accept the comptroller’s version without question.”
I live about 40 minutes from Mason. I have watched that town implode politically from corruption losing its police force TWICE stealing 600K dollars from the city over 10 years. And the current mayor isnt perfect. He recently was pulled over for a DUI but Mumpowers corrupt ass. He took office january 21 of this year…
Seems like a bit of a PR nightmare for Ford if the state wins.
Just the sort of situation a major windfall from the investment would fix. Perhaps the those trying to eliminate the town should offer some financial planning help instead of diverting what would be local taxes to their donors.
It’s just so openly racist. And condescending, like the black folk can't handle governing
Yeah that sounds about white. I love my fucking state.
It’s located in Tipton County and Tippin County, which straddles the Manson-Nixon Line.
“Mason also has the highest property tax rate in Tipton County, funds used in large part to employ 26 people on the town’s payroll.
It’s probably a “Dillon Rule” state, which southern states tend to be. That means the state is all-controlling, unless powers are specifically delegated to local governments.
I don’t know if this is accurate, but there is a chance the conservative state government officials doesn’t want the explosive growth this plant will bring to happen inside the possibly more liberal jurisdiction of the Mason local government. Think of it as a form of gerrymandering.
...our you know, just an article about how a Ford plant in a predominantly black community has riled up racists in positions of power due to how the black community will benefit from it.
They want what would be local tax money to be spent elsewhere in the state - most likely among those who voted for the comptroller.
What is the state’s rationale here? Like, why does this even matter?
What’s that supposed to mean?
That thumb of a comptroller actually started the process of forcibly taking control the next day.
I know it’s Tenessee but damn that’s on the nose. (“These black folk don’t know how money works, unlike those white folk who were efficient in their fraud!”)
