I've heard of a project that scans certain kinds of stars looking for evidence of Dyson Spheres, trying to find variants of those stars which are giving off less radiation than would be expected. @Tubgirl Cosplay: I don't remember lots of blank pages, but his use of sentence fragments was a competent example of how you'd want to do it if you intend to set a scene in that kind of mood. Technique-wise, his book is very useful.
