As a lifelong sci fi nerd, I have been told a million times that I must watch and that I would absolutely love BSG. I have watched the first part of the first Syfy (or whatever it is now) miniseries and never came back. It wasn’t for me, but I feel like I’m going to get my nerd cred pulled every time it comes up.

There are a number of shows I’ve loved S1:E1 or 2 and then, realizing there are at least 20, if not 50 t0 100, hours of backlog to get through, read the summary on Wiki so I know what happens and moved on.

I watch a lot more sports these days because it is discrete and manageable. It’s fresh and I can’t be spoiled, except when NBCSN insists on Blues games, because nobody likes the Blues.

Fuller House.

Seriously. I did and I’m so much happier for it. I used to live it and tried to break in to the smart mark writing world and then life intervened and...wow, I’m so much happier not obligating myself to watch terrible stuff.

At least it’s a critically-lauded show, or was at one point. Mine insisted on 2.5 Men until the end and may still binge Scorpion when I’m not around.

I can believe Modern Family. It’s declined a little, but the investment in the characters carries the humor so I’m still entertained. But then again, I’m rather simple.

I remain, and shouldn’t be, surprised that Schiano’s record as Schiano Man, forget about any Penn State stuff, doesn’t disqualify him.

As an aside, from the Brek Shea reminder...I wonder how much Josh Lambo has out-earned everyone else on that US U20 roster.

Throw in a couple anecdotes about poor people, especially if POC, overcoming hurdles through hard work (and ignoring any luck involved) and blame everyone who isn’t succeeding for not working hard enough. It’s as formulaic a genre as the Barbara Cartland novel.

Totally agree and I’m on the cusp of Old. I’ve had good talks with my elderly father, who struggles but tries, because the world has changed so much in his lifetime. He recognizes it’s not his world anymore, but he’s also an octogenarian former laborer who wasn’t especially benefiting in his day.

Of all the ways I pictured Billy, it was wearing an EPL jersey and carrying a pint of bitters. Color me surprised.

Don’t worry, Pacific Rim will underperform and they can blame Boyega despite the fact the movie is certain to be crap, then they can return to their comfy narrative.

I remain surprised that people are full-speed-ahead envisioning the problems of the Nixon governorship. She’s basically trolling Andy C. and pushing buttons to remind people how unpopular he is, to get either Cuomo or whatever upstate sacrificial victim is on the R line, to respond to some pet issues.

At least there is glass in the windows, unlike when I was a child in the Bronze Age.

Maybe I’m just a contrarian in my old age, but I don’t mind “fix the subways” because NYC is the economic engine that runs the entire state of NY, as much as I could lose my upstater membership for admitting it.

This. All the “there’s no subway in Rotterdam!!11!!” and “she won’t beat (GOP) in a statewide race”...it’s a primary. It’s all about positioning to potential Democratic primary voters and/or stating a message to move the needle. Is she seriously trying a heavy-on-NYC campaign or is she trying to move him left? I have

Very true. Especially in a dem primary, it’s going to be NYC’s population that has more of an impact than us upstate Dems.

I didn’t get it either. And I really don’t want to think too hard on it lest I begin to understand.

See Kluwe above. Higher % comes into play on non-football contracts.
