It’s actually been on the loose for over a month. I live many states away and was still freaked out it.

I remember someone saying in a Gawker comment (so I don’t know how many grains of salt it needs to be taken with) that when she lived in San Francisco, she was pretty humble and always willing to work with any charities that approached her. I’ve been keeping that image of her in mind, so now I feel disappointed.

I live in Philadelphia, and there was usually very little coverage of this event in the local media until the past few years, and it's been increasing each time. It's so blatant that the Penn State PR department has been going into overdrive to try to make everyone forget about the football scandal.

My favorite book when I was a kid (in the '60s) was The Empty Schoolhouse by Natalie Savage Carlson. I bought a copy a few years back, and it was amazing how much still came back to me after all this time, such was the impression it left. You can get hold of used copies online.
