I believe the first to get the ball rolling was Ford and the first gen of the Taurus in 1985. In fact- I have no idea why- but I recall watching that car show that came on PBS back then and they talked about this- that there wasn’t as much of a need for that much air intake.

I have zero love for Oldsmobile. I was born in the late 70's and all while I was growing up there was nothing that that brand had ( maybe other than the Fiero ) that was that interesting. We owned an 02' Prius and it had a center display. Believe it or not you do get used to it.

GM proved they can do quality with the Volt. Mine is over 5 years old and so far its been perfect. It has scored fairly high in terms of fit and finish and reliability, ranking right up there with the Prius.
