The Buran flew an un-manned flight. Once. That was it. The Shuttles flew for 30 years. Hence there isn’t a benchmark to compare the two since the Buran did not prove itself in service.

Your story is pretty much what I suspected. I was hoping that at worst maybe all the electronic crap like the power windows and stuff would simply not work but the engine would run regardless. Doesn’t sound that to be the case.

I think I know the answer, but how reliable were those BMW 750’s? I assume that any issue also costs a small fortune? Still- I’m not a BMW fan but that price seems insanely cheap given how much it was new.

After watching it a few times its clear that test vehicle is pretty much a floating water tank with wheels. So I’m assuming custom-made for testing catapults.
