I really assumed that it wasn’t going to be nearly as bad as people made it out to be. After all, how difficult is it to make a good commenting system?

It’s fucking awful.
“Decimated” originally meant losing only one-tenth, which would be a hell of a lot better than what actually happened!
Yeah, I’m torn between my annoyance at Kinja and the sad realization of how much I can get done if I spent less time on these threads.
I had a long weekend post-kinjapocalypse (was present the final morning), but officially moved my account on here yesterday. I’m less than impressed so far, no surprises there.
Heckuva job, Trumpie.
As anyone who’s spent more than a few minutes on A.V. Club or Kotaku already knows, Kinja is a trainwreck, mashing together deceptively shot selfies, lists of favorite movies, and the words “spiritual, but not religious” into awkward configurations galore.
Just as the tragedy of WW1 was followed by the Spanish flu pandemic, so Kinja is just a prelude to CancerAIDS wiping us all out.
I think maybe it was more Alexandra’s budgetary issues? They don’t have an unlimited supply of ninjas in the world, so maybe this was them at their absolute breaking point. (He says, optimistically.)
I certainly don’t blame you.
I am a web-dev, and I’m only more baffled by this transition now.
I’ve worked alongside web devs, though I’m not one myself, and I can appreciate that not everything can be anticipated when going through a massive revamp. Hiccups are inevitable. I can also appreciate that oftentimes there are people within an org who DO anticipate certain hiccups but are ignored because they don’t…
Apropos of nothing I would also like to say that even if the comment sections kinks get worked out, Kinja’s “one column stream” format is completely antithetical to the way AVC has approached content. I say this as someone who’s lived through many Twitter design changes and know that most are ridden out and forgotten.…
A rushed, hard-to-follow mess which consistently alienates its audience.
I have to click for more at least ten times per minute, the white space is blinding, I have a burner account and the admins are recommending we use an unofficial extension designed for a single browser.
As an also long-term Kinja user, albeit one whose account got wiped out by this process, I can assure you that it’s at least as bad as everyone fears, probably worse.
Fantastic article. WHY AM I ON GAWKER?
Why should I believe you? Kinja looks like shit and I rarely had problems with Disqus
It’s not a “fear” though, it’s a reality we are living in right now. The reality of a terrible comment system and quite probably the death of this site.
