It matters for the longterm health of the franchise. If Wonder Woman hadn’t been good, people would have wised up to the DC movies eventually.

Perhaps, but not an elite sandwich.

Not a dunk.

What about being faster? And taller? And having played your entire life against other people who are stronger and faster and taller. Does any of that matter, or are your feelings about what you hope would happen the only important consideration here?

You put the scare quotes around the wrong word.

I thought I replied to this earlier, but it doesn’t seem to be showing up. In any case, I get where you’re coming from. I don’t think McEnroe was trying to discount Serena’s accomplishments, and don’t think he would have brought it up if he hadn’t been asked a stupid question.

Look, I’m a feminist. I don’t think men are “better” because they are, at top levels, stronger and faster and better at sports. But they are.

Not a fan of data/science?

People using logic and acknowledging facts are what’s important to me. People deluding themselves into thinking Serena could beat top men isn’t important per se, but it’s symptomatic of something that *is* important: people’s tendency to dismiss any data that doesn’t fit their biases.

Serena would not be as good as that. I don’t know why it’s so hard to fathom? She’s amazing at women’s tennis. College men would wipe the floor with her.

Yeah, most people don’t realize the huge physical disparity between men and women in athletics! It’s not sexist to acknowledge it. Serena is fantastic. But there’s a reason she doesn’t play against the men.

She’d be far, far, far outside the top 700. Look at these:

She wouldn’t be in the top 700. Look up track women’s world records and compare them to high school boys’ world records. You’ll be surprised at what you find.

He’s not. Read the quotes.

She would get beaten by men’s college players.

Top 700 is extraordinarily generous. In measurable sports like track and field, the top women typically perform about the same as the top 15-year-old boys.

It’s a hard ‘g,’ like ‘grift.’ Don’t care what the inventor says. JIF sounds stupid as fuck.

The person calling you out is a douche. I would be able to identify it as England if I saw it as part of the whole UK, but no, I don’t have the contours of the subsections of Great Britain down by heart. That’s doesn’t make me “bad at geography” any more than a Brit would be “bad at geography if he couldn’t identify a

Can you explain to me, a non-fan, why this was a bad call? Because to a lay person, it looks like the guy is getting the life choked out of him and not fighting back.

God, that’s dumb. Should go w/o saying, but sports aren’t about the refs and the umps. They’re like waiters: The more you notice them, the worse they are at their jobs.
