This, exactly. He’s asking for a bunch of money he has absolutely no leverage to get. Everybody is telling him no. Why the fuck am I supposed to be impressed?

Oh my fucking God, dude. I guarantee you I would be just as annoyed if this were Johnny Manziel’s dad. In fact, I already hate Johnny Manziel’s dad, and he’s not trying to make me think that typing the letter “B” three times is a genius marketing move.

Counterpoint: He sucks AND his business sucks.

Why do people think that this is a settled question already? Talk to me about Wentz in three or four years.

I think context is hugely underrated. If Tom Brady got drafted by the Browns, he would not be Tom Brady.

Wentz is way too early to say that was a smart trade.

Usually “everybody was hot on him during the draft” isn’t a phrase that one applies to sixth-round picks. Brady was a winning lottery ticket, not a reach pick.

More seriously, though, this is the second time someone’s brought up Flacco, and it’s a good point. He was selected at #18, though. You wonder if he’d have been a top-three pick these days. And then, you have to wonder if he’d have won a Super Bowl with a team like the Jags or the Browns that was picking in the top 3.

But would you really say he’s elite? :)

Another thing: Who’s the last QB you can think of where you barely ever heard of him in college, all of a sudden everybody was hot on him during the draft because of measurables or whatever, and he actually turned out to be really good?

Hmmm. Interesting. Worked out for a couple of years, but do you think most Jets fans would make that trade over again if given the chance? Hard to say.

Was Eli considered a reach at the time?

I guess.

Maaaaaaaybe a dumb question, but: If the Niners were willing to make this trade, doesn’t that mean they were super unlikely to take the guy with their pick? In which case the Bears could have just grabbed him at #3 without giving up anything?

Yes, she should have read through all 306 comments before offering up her own lived experience.

That’s ... the whole point of advertising?

I mean, yeah, but if the NFLPA had any real power, they could negotiate to abolish or increase the cap. (Basketball has a cap, too, but you don’t see a lot of players who could command tens of millions of dollars on the open market playing on a one-year, $4 million deal because he’s restricted from seeking better

I continue to be amazed by the disparity between the deals negotiated MLB and NFL players unions. It’s practically illegal to overpay a pro football player (QBs excepted), and practically illegal NOT to overpay any pro baseball player over the age of 25.

I’m a Celtics fan, but I used to hate watching Paul Pierce jump into defenders and toss up non-shots to get to the line. Just play fucking basketball.

I’m a nominal Pats fan (live in Boston, but only real allegiance is to my college team), and generally like Brady okay, and this is unequivocally bullshit. Fuck Brady.
