Ah, the late 60s, when it was shocking that a psychopath killed a bunch of innocent people. Its a terrible commentary of today that such killings happen almost weekly and are forgotten just as fast.

You know that Little Caesar’s ad where the kid is in class giving a heartfelt speech on his dream of making a better pizza, only to cut to the guy behind the desk saying “sorry kid, it’s been done”? That’s America in a nutshell: an old, white guy behind a desk crushing a child’s dreams.

I’ve always thought the drawback would be that no matter what, 50% of the country hates you with unbridled vitriol. Plus you can’t drive a car, which as a motoring enthusiast would kill me.

The Don Draper effect: sometimes people see this guy sleeping with lots of women, drinking all the time etc and they think that is somehow the “cool” part of the show. They never think about the fact that if they actually knew a person who drank before noon and seduced their wife they’d be pissed.

I’d wager that, more often than not, the movies made over the years where the main actress is dating the director are mostly kind of terrible. I can’t think of a great film off the top of my head with such a couple in charge.
