In New England, literally every player under contract is taking less. Donta Hightower’s extension is the only contract signed this season with an AAV of over $5 mil. I also wouldn’t blame Luck for taking the money. It’s not his job to take less, and Luck spent his first contract making WAY LESS than his market value.

This is a more important point. A non-superstar at QB helps everywhere else in a hard cap league. All three of those mentioned teams are in the bottom half of QB spending: Philly is 6th smallest, Minnesota 10th, Jacksonville 14th. (12, 13, and 15 are the Rams, Titans, and Bills.) The Jags aren’t signing Calais

WHO WANTS SOME DOUBLE-D TITS?????

SI in the late aughts is an obscure weekly paper.

I hate to agree, but you’re right. Fuck.

If you’re not gonna play home games in a city, you better have some players from that city. I would have rooted for this Philly team by default. But this is lunacy. This team can get bent.

The Philadelphia sports fan demographic is the absolute last place esports will find success.

Grantland was the last sports website that relied on prose and insight over breaking news, rumors, hot takes, etc. It was a digital Sports Illustrated of young writers. As if old Playboy articles came to life online. Nothing before or after has done what Grantland has. Obviously it’s not influential anymore. ESPN

Woj and Schefter are both huge, influential figures in sports media. But their careers are news and scoops. Best on twitter, not on a page. Lowe is the opposite: a talented writer lacking any influence.

It would help if you named someone who’s currently more influential.

That’s a completely plausible scenario. But I still would have thrown on second. I’m not one to burn my final timeout unless I have to.

Rushing around getting set on fourth down while the clock ticks isn’t an easy situation to succeed through. I get what you’re saying, maybe you’re right, but even something as simple as “Marshawn Dive Left x3" isn’t a given.

Of course. And such a decision could have won the game. But the Pats were expecting that exact scenario. They had the box stacked on second down, playing cover 0 behind it. They were playing run. And if it doesn’t work and you burn a timeout, now you’re going to pass on 3rd down against a defense expecting it.

I think his old stuff still holds up. His work pre-Grantland was smart and funny. His pieces read like a conversation with a friend about sports over some drinks. It was sports writing without the wall of pretentiousness.

That is NOT enough time to run the ball three straight times. The clock doesn’t stop running and needs spotted, you could get two plays off max within 26 seconds.

It was second and goal from the one. But counterpoint to your counterpoint: Clemson ran a goalline pick play to beat Alabama in the NC. Throwing the ball in that situation is a perfectly plausible thing to do. The mistake is in the execution. Wilson threw a shade late and off his back foot. He sailed the ball a bit

Rafer Ballston is too good. Cheers.

I agree on your first point: Holding Trump accountable for a deal made in 2014 is senseless, not playing fair.

I don’t understand any futures betting. When spread over a multi-month season, you need to wager something significant to make it worthwhile.

I thought the same thing. But then they did a U.S. reboot.
