I think this is a lot of it. They got some kind of great incentives, discounts, but only if they financed through the automaker’s inhouse financing arm. So they did, and then probably turned around a month later and paid it off with a bank loan with better APR or with cash.

I honestly don’t think you’ll see interest rates go up in the short term. From what I’ve heard/read, that’s a strategy reserved to control “normal” inflation, which isn’t really what we’re experiencing right now. I think the consensus is that increasing interest rates would make things catastrophically worse.
