Ooh I like the breathing room one and I may borrow this thought to meditate on later. I’ve really gotten in tune with what I want- or more accurately, I’ve realized that I can want things. I am going to be focused on making my habits healthier in an effort to get more in tune with what my goals and desires are. Happy

Anyone reading/watching anything good? Thus far this break I’ve read Hamnet (enjoyed very much) and started The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (taking a while to develop but the premise is intriguing so I’ll stick with it). I also watched all of Derry Girls, rewatched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (it left Netflix

What have you been making lately? I got the Poilâne bakery book for Christmas, so I made bread, who would have ever guessed?

Good afternoon/evening, everyone!

The HBO subscription has turned out to be worth it to watch The Undoing. SO GOOD.

The hotel already knows who she is. It says boatloads that it appears the NYPD hasn’t asked them yet.

The woman was a guest at the hotel several days prior.

While I knew the basics of the incident beforehand, reading this still caused a massive ‘Wait, what?’ moment for me when I got to the point that the woman had been a guest at the hotel a few nights before this.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that she looks at his phone and realizes it's not hers. Then what? Empty his pockets? Check his backpack? It's not my responsibility to make sure you have all of your property. That woman should be ashamed.

This is something you hear from a lot of white people...the, if your doing nothing wrong than just do what the (usually police, but really anyone in authority who does what THEY want).

And yet there are people who are saying that the father should have deescalated everything by letting them look at his son’s phone.

I can’t help but wonder, was this some kind of spontaneous grift? Lost her phone, thought she’d steal one from the first Black guy she could accuse? Not saying it makes sense, but why else would you do this?

“And yet there are people who are saying that the father should have deescalated everything by letting them look at his son’s phone.”

Someone needed a “welcome to real NY” beatdown.  She should’ve gotten her ass beaten.

Kinda fascinating how the hotel manager seems to be acting as the police here. I didn’t realize they had that kind of power.

I can only guess that this woman chose to act out on camera because, like many white people, she assumed that she was immune from the consequences of her own actions, and that bad things are supposed to happen to other people, not them.

No way would I hand over my son’s phone to this lunatic.

She has racist eyes: fear embiggened, coupled with downturned angry-cartoon brows. Outstanding specimens in the first two photographs. The third picture, I believe, shows her surprise when he responded with intelligible human speech.

And yet there are people who are saying that the father should have deescalated everything by letting them look at his son’s phone. I call bullshit. I don’t think you owe anyone anything if you’re minding your business and doing nothing wrong. You could deescalate a situation by not making outrageous allegations.

Her whole reaction seems oddly out of proportion. Like, call it from another phone. If it rings right there in front of everyone, yay. If it doesn’t...oops. Apology time!
