I know maybe a handful of people that take baths religiously. My dad was a bath taker as well, could sit in there for an hour with a newspaper

I feel for Vanessa. I’m betting her mother has been a piece of work all her life. Here’s hoping Vanessa’s lawyers are able to quickly shut this thing down and cut off the leech, and Vanessa can go back to figuring out her new normal and raising her kids.

She'll never stop trying to drain her, financially and emotionally. There is no negotiating with bottomless pits.

Ugh.  I cannot imagine what Vanessa is going through.  I am not a Kobe fan (if you have to ask why it merits no response), but his wife and surviving children are off limits, and what her mother is doing is horrific.  That woman has been through enough.

I haven’t read Lolita, not sure if I should.

My Dark Vanessa made my finally force myself to finish Lolita

I originally set a goal of 75 books, but reached it a few months ago, so reset it to 90. I’m on my 98th book, going for 100. I read a lot of rom-coms to distract me from all the crazy. Right now i’m reading Luster, it’s pretty good, and surprisingly short.

That rap sketch with Timothee Chalamet this past weekend has been living in my head rent-free ever since. It’s blowing up on TikTok and it’s the best thing about December so far.

I read for fluff & to shut my brain off, mostly fantasy and mysteries. My favorite books this year are

I managed to rediscover my reading mojo this year, (although my attention span for other things was tiny at times). Here are my fiction favourites:

He is! Plus Bill Burr, Marisa Tomei, and Maude Apatow are gems in it as well.

although the existence of something like this, in however few people, wouldn't be surprising, there's actually a lot of people that get tattoos as part of the healing process (and sometimes they are covering up scars from self harm). just like survivors of cancer or other scar-leaving conditions.

Getting tattoos, depending on where they’re located and who’s doing the tattooing, can hurt like hell. I’ve always figured that a lot of folks who get random tats of stupid shit all over their body without any particular plan (not like doing sleeves or memorial pieces) are kind of indulging in a more socially

I really enjoyed Writers and Lovers, but did you really read it? Or even the summary of it on Amazon? It’s set in 1997, and the women is 31 years old. Not 20's, not mid-2000s.

Ditto on Hilary Mantel’s trilogy, Esther. My then-boss gave me Wolf Hall as a gift some years ago and, not being big on historical fiction, I didn’t expect to like it. He also referred to me as “his Thomas Cromwell” when he gave it to me, which I wasn’t at all sure how to take. When I asked about that, he assured me

This. I had a crap father who is very regretful now, but that doesn’t make up for much.

As someone that had an abusive drug addicted father that we literally hid from for a number of years... The very idea of a man proud enough of being the father of a child (any child really) to wear shirts calling out their children in any form is endearing to me.

She actually dodged a bullet there. The Russian was a narcissistic asshat. Vogue Candy’s got no time for that!

I used to see her walking her dogs in Central Park, like she was just one of us regular folks. My mom, who loved Murphy Brown, was so delighted by this.

I was at the gas station today and the attendant who sold me my delicious, delicious Diet Coke was talking to her coworker while she took my $$. Gist of the convo: “I’m not getting the vaccine unless they make my kids get the vaccine in order to go to school, because I won’t make my kids go through something I won’t
