Those should be banned or a class action forced to fix them. I can’t believe such things were ever engineered in my lifetime. I know there are other examples, but these seem to be the canonical example of a vehicle destined to fail and bury you in costs if you attempt to do anything about it.

My few points about old cars:

Send me to prison, guilty as charged.   It’s no Type-R of course, but it has its merits, certainly for its price band, although there’s not too many 2.0T manuals to be had.
