40 mile each way commute into central Jersey from Manhattan where I lived. It was the dot-com crash and I was desperate for work . Pulaski skyway every day. You may say, “Well, it was a reverse commute, so not so bad.”, but that did more wear and tear on my car than any other commute I’ve ever had. Plus bridge and

I own a Honda Odyssey. I love it. I love minivans. I’m that way. They are infinitely flexible and I can get 29mpg on the highway. But there’s one way they fail, and that’s why I understand where you are coming from.

You can’t really tow anything reasonable with a minivan. And this is America. I actually think pickups

fun fact, the Concorde had to be optimally painted white due to heating. When they painted it Pepsi blue, it had a slight speed restriction (if you consider slight to mean 200+mph—-quoth the wikipedia “in this paint scheme, Air France was advised to remain at Mach 2 (2,120 km/h; 1,320 mph) for no more than 20 minutes

When Malcolm Gladwell is wrong, he’s “all-in” wrong, with a bullet. But the problem is that he’s sometimes devastatingly correct, like in regards to the students who were protesting Wilson’s name on the Princeton campus. Or the argument about why we (shouldn’t) allow football athletes to play in a sport that causes

While I think the X5 M is an impressive bit of kit, if given the means and opportunity to own an M wagon, particularly one with a stick, I would chose it over the SUV.

As long as they make a weekender and camper version, I’m in.

I love the Flex for its very quirkiness.  It seems so likely to never get updated though.   It deserves a boxy 2nd gen with even more of the boxy.

A great idea that unfortunately was kinda ugly.

I love it.   Too bad the 1cm clearance is gonna be a problem.

I encountered a comparison of leaded gasoline data and abortion data and the leaded gasoline data matched much better with the reduction in crime.

“It is a matter of some debate as to whether the duties involved cleaning the king’s anus.” That’s a wikipedia classic right there. Also great name for a grindcore band.

Yeah, if others haven’t already pointed it out, I will. Too many FIRE evangelists are single, or partner and no kids scenarios. Um, yeah. If you are in those categories, it’s not clear to me how you would *not* be saving a lot of money.

The vast majority of people who savings could be better are families or single

I miss my 1988 Metallic Blue MR2 with T-tops, non-supercharged. But while the engine was reliable, the car was a pain to maintain—the exhaust was never designed correctly, IMO. The t-tops leaked, as they are wont to do. It was dangerous even in the lightest of snow.

I would not be willing to pay much for a car that

My Zojirushi has seen 14 years of heavy use without showing any signs of age. Also, I’m not adding any oil/butter to rice while cooking.

I noticed this problem two years ago when I bought my Mazda 6. I even emailed 99pi about it.

I have a minivan. I love it. But if I wanted a large luxury vehicle, and I was in America, as I am, I’d get this:

I make jam every year or two. My family is addicted. I feel uncomfortable with the idea of suggesting it’s ok not to sterilize jars because most people assume jam in jars is shelf-stable and safe. Sterilizing everything is a trivial extra step for a ton of peace of mind, IMO.

I want that made into this:
