Yeah, I think there’s a big difference between Scalia furiously masturbating at the thought of eliminating all gay rights, and Murphy shrugging and saying something to the effect of, “Since you asked, my pastor says gays are bad, so I guess gays are bad.”

I think “raging homophobe” might be a little extreme

Which begs the question: Why the hell is anybody asking Daniel Murphy what he thinks about homosexuality?

I went back and read his comments. They are certainly homophobic and worth calling out but also more thoughtful than anything John Rocker ever said. Or as the Deadspin article says “Murphy seems to be more toward the “oafish but well-meaning” end of the anti-gay spectrum than the “Family Research Council” one.”

“Raging homophobe” is a bit strong. From what he’s said on the subject, he’s got the very wrong-headed but much more understandable “Love the sinner, hate the sin” perspective that a lot of people have when they were raised very, very Christian.

Pretending a catcher is a fielder is no different than pretending a bear is a goat. A billy goat, you could say.

Exactly right. THE WHOLE POINT of our government was to invest the legislatures with the most power. And yet we expect our presidents, governors and even mayors to rule by fiat. Thus, we get candidates who like the idea of ruling by fiat.

And this is why I hate the “both parties are evil/feckless/corrupt” line. It’s lazy intellectual thinking but readily easy to believe for people who are more eager to disengage from politics than to participate in it.

I always thought it was weird we care so much about the president, when really most of the governing power lies with Congress. And because no cares about the legislature on any level, we let them become shit shows.

Don’t really understand how you can claim Messi is so great when look at what happens with the national team?? How many world cups has Brazil won with Messi “leading” the squad?

“I can’t believe the NFL would turn on one of its own so quickly!” said nobody who remembers Pat Tillman.

I gotta be honest here, I have absolutely no idea how Deadspin wants me to feel about this.

This is the first time I’ve seen a comment that mentioned Kant in a way that wasn’t a pun; it’s funny to me that the response to you involved “you value your leisure time in front of the television more than...”

Good article. This isn’t a football problem, it’s a people problem, so it is a bit bizarre that so many people expect leadership to come from the NFL on this when it hasn’t even happened in our own justice system (or really anywhere else for that matter).

You sure it wasn’t his Parkinson’s? We’ll never know the truth.

Francesa missed a golden “there’s no crying in baseball” opportunity there.

A lot of the attendance stuff is fans intentionally staying away from the ballpark because they didn’t want to support the Wilpon family’s crap, where they would slash payroll to Minnesota Twins levels but repeatedly lie to the fans by saying there’s nothing wrong with them financially and there’s “financial
