I live in Virginia too and often wonder why the curly hair stuff is all cordoned off on a separate shelf for ‘ethnic’ hair. Considering the demographics of the area where I live, I suspect more people are buying ‘ethnic’ products than not. Also, I’m pretty sure people with straight hair still have an ethnicity.

I find their products only work well with other Deva products and that they require a lot of precision (not too much and not too little, you have to put the styling product on when your hair is sopping wet and it works best if you flip your head upside down, etc).
