Little Miss Muffett starts again

Hmm, I figured it was a reference to the line in Sontag’s “Notes on Camp” that reads

I wish she had worn that instead.

Sorry, I meant from the E! commentators, not by the attendees.

Anyone else really missing the Hello Kitty runway episode of RPDR?

SJP didn’t go this year! I really really hope there’s some drama there, I need some Met Gala drama that doesn’t involve a Kardashian or assholes smoking in the bathroom.

I’ve seen a few-- Aquaria and Violet, maybe a few others? But drag royalty isn’t just the under-30 cast of RPDR, so I really hope they did better with the invitation list than just that.

Except that Karlie Kloss looks boring and lame.

I haven’t been watching, but any references to Paris is Burning and black drag culture?

OMG thank you. That’s exactly it.

I literally just rage-typed that she was my worst dressed of the night. So boring. If she didn’t want to go for camp, she could have at least gone for fashion. Or pretty model in a pretty dress.

I think there is a sincerity, or naivete, to camp. Camp doesn’t have to be tacky but it is by definition, excessive (which tends to be viewed as tacky).

I am SO DISAPPOINTED that not one person has done a play on words around camp, or covered both by going full Troop Beverly Hills.

Worst dressed of the night for me: Karlie Kloss. Because she has no excuse. She’s a model, she’s famous, and she wore a tube dress. Don’t go if you’re not even going to try.

Who wore it better?

We could all just say “accidentally” too, but then what would we argue about?

I’m not sure about its origins but I’ve seen some hypotheses that it developed to mirror “on purpose,” which has the opposite meaning. Given that it’s most frequently used by children, that makes sense to me.

Google is a good start. Let me know if you need help.

It’s not my opinion, I am sharing the findings of several linguistic studies.

I believe that “on accident” may have evolved as the opposite of “on purpose”. You don’t have to use it if you find it so offensive.

Agreed! I am a firm believer in proper grammar, but I also recognize that language is fluid and constantly evolving. There’s also a difference between correcting errors that impact readability or understanding, and attacking phrases that point to generational/regional/situational differences.
