Tesla has never made a profit selling cars. They have made a small profit a couple quarters trading in government clean air credits.

If Tesla can’t turn a profit on a 100k model S or 150k model X, what makes you think they’ll be able to on a 35k model 3?

Tesla’s car business seems to be following what used to be known as ‘The Fiat Model’: I.e. “We lose money on every car, but we make up for it with volume”.

15 years ago Tesla wasn’t valued more than a car firm who’s output was 2,614,697 cars in 2016 all while Tesla only produced 76,000 in the same year.

But Amazon could have made a profit pretty much anytime after the first couple years in operation. Tesla today still can’t.
