@Friedhamster: You've already said all I need to know. Your words have revealed you as a chauvanist quite well, you did that all by your pretty little self. This is not a misinterpretation on my part, this is you revealing yourself through casual conversation. But of course, I must be wrong, I'm just the defensive

@resvrgam: Well, all in due time, I hope! Equal pay and anti sexual harassment directly affect a woman's social stature and well being, so its no wonder it takes precedence.

@Friedhamster: News flash: thinking a woman needs to be protected by you instead of protecting herself IS coddling. And saying that it's a male's job to do the protecting is an old fashioned, condescending gender role. I'm surprised a male would want to contribute to it, but then, it strokes your hero complex nicely

It's not about protecting children, its about covering their own ass with plausible deniability. It's serves their purposes better to be able to say, "Oh well its not my fault your child saw that violent content...they lied on the age gate!"

@The Anti-Fanboy: Sigh. I don't need "financial" issues explained to me. I understand that issue fully well (seeing as how I'm a games writer, I better!). Regardless, I hear the "Oh its not financially sound to include you" justification all the time. Then the conversation ultimately goes back to "Well, the burden is

@Friedhamster: Um, yes, its ridiculously offensive to see us as inherently weaker and in need of protection by men. RIDICULOUSLY offensive. It's not a compliment that you find us incapable in comparison to you. It's not a compliment that you think we can't take care of ourselves.

@resvrgam: Just because people aren't responding the way you deem fit doesn't mean we don't feel that way.

@Friedhamster: So you DO think women are fragile and need protecting? How offensive.

@sollipse: Yes, it's sexist, but a little understandable given our social conditioning regarding women and domestic violence. However, there's a big difference between an epidemic of violence based on hatred of women and inequal relationship dynamics, versus combat situations.

@Stephen Totilo: It also reveals a lot about how they view women—obviously, this person finds women to be weaker and in need of protection, or else they'd have no qualms about shooting them in the face. As GeneralBattuta said, either all of its ok, or none of it is. It's sexist to see men as just some kind of walking

@Altima NEO: I can't believe you got starred for that comment.

@spannu: I'm a female gamer, and I personally would rather they make a half assed effort than none at all.

@Friedhamster: Its not hating women to shoot one in a video game. You shoot men in video games, do you hate men?

@fuchikoma: On the contrary, all the women I know would rather be referred to as women.

@GeneralBattuta: Exactly. The only reason violence against women is even an issue has to do more with DOMESTIC violence rather than "regular". The abuse and domineering use of violence in order to control and manipulate happens disproportionally to women because of relationship dynamics and our societal views of

I'm one of these female gamer he speaks of, and I can honestly say while I enjoy destructible environments very much, I'd rather be acknowledged than ignored. Especially when I'm only being excluded because its more expensive to include me. What a lame justification.

@herogear: I don't think that's the case at all. I'm a female gamer, and I've never once pissed and moaned how those big dirty Super Mutants beating up on me (my female character) in Fallout 3, or how the Enclave really roughed me up when I was drugged and dragged to Raven Rock. FO3 isn't a war game, but your reply

"It 's not at all erotic and fun like when men do it to women."
