it strikes me as odd that a car would need gears at all after all these years of development. Transmissions only exist to compensate for the inadequacy of the internal combustion engine. Drive an electric car w/o one to get between you and the drivi g experience and you will never be satisfied with a gearbox anymore.

Exactly.

Actually, no. P-47 was only turbocharged. Turbo was in the back (that's why the fuselage is so big) while the F4U had a same engine but with a supercharger. I can't think of any production aircraft that had a proper twincharging (turbocharger and supercharger).

I love jugs.

If you really think about it, this is functionally how wastegates function.

God I love what turbos can do to anything. You set something on fire next to a turbo, and it doesn't run away, it gets excited.

I know the people have a problem with Rolls Royce getting any engine business for US Military aircraft, but, by far, the absolute best, most economical replacement engine for the B-52 is the RR BR700 (specifically, either a redo of teh 715-A1-30, or, a slightly uprated version of the 725-A1-12 as used on the

The old TF39s are not exactly reliable, which is the reason they are being dumped off the C-5. It was one of that planes major weaknesses. There was a good reason nothing else used them.

So the V70 XC (first gen) had the VC center diff. XC70 implies second generation at least, since the car was labeled as V70 XC until mid-cycle when it got rebranded as XC70. All XC70s are Haldex based. Unfortunately the Haldex system doesn't engage until the rear wheels spin 1/7th of a turn. This wasn't fixed until
