Whenever I see accusations of ‘centrism’ bandied about it’s nearly always used by self-styled ‘socialists’ in reference to someone who promotes a more nuanced viewed of society than just ‘capitalism bad.’

Yeah and not just the first one, but the response to the second one, which is this is the direct sequel of, was pretty brutal. One might jump to the conclusion that might have a bigger impact than what JK Rowling thinks about transpeople, but then again that doesn’t give that same room for feeling good about moral

  • Both Socks and his portrayer (Hugh Coles) are standouts.

I agree with a lot of this....in theory. But it was hardly Lucas’ first strike, after the prequel trilogy. And while I’ll take the ambitious, idiosyncratic prequel trilogy over the corporate-mandated, straight up the middle pablum of “The Force Awakens”, it also doesn’t have to be strictly an either/or proposition.

It’s not stupid. Even creators can run out of creative juice or have their personal sensibilities change so they’re no longer suited to it. Which happened to both of them.

We had a latter-day Indy sequel with Spielberg and Lucas.  Sorry, but after that one, they deserve a ban from the property.

You’d think they’d catch on after Teddy Perkins, yet here we are.

I like this season BECAUSE it feels like a departure from the last 2 seasons since they’re leaving Atlanta into unfamiliar territory, while also keeping their roots. I liked Three Slaps and The Big Payback as standalone episodes (Three Slaps far more) but I can see it as jarring when you just want to catch up from

The self-awareness comes from the show being gone for four years, along with the weight of the expectations that the viewer have on the new season. The writers had a choice: either churn out more of the same, where people would just complain about “another episode with no plot advancement” or they could have fun with

I don’t understand. Both seasons of Atlanta never led to any narrative payoffs. Atlanta has almost always been an anthology-type, “each episode is self-contained” type with minor advancements in the plot either happening in the background or off-screen. How is this season any different for you?

I wasn’t blown away.

To be fair, out of those nominated, Louis C.K. is far and away the funniest comedian on the list. Whether he should’ve been nominated is a whole other conversation, but he is without question funnier.

Well, no. You have to keep it proportional and understand what they’ve done, how serious it is, and what they can do to make up for it or how long they should be punished in the court of public opinion for it. You can’t just accept cancel culture at face value and treat everyone on it’s never ending list equivalently

You hate this site too. We’ve all hated this site since around the time Nathan Rabin left

I can’t imagine Uncle Phil would be too happy with Will right now.

That’s not how I remember it.

You know, it occurs to me that if you don’t think that a celebrity’s response to something is particularly noteworthy, then you have the option to simply NOT REPORT ON IT. This weird sort of unearned condescending snark may be Barsanti's trademark, but I'll be damned if I can understand why it's something that the GMG

Continues to fascinate me how AV Club works. If this were almost anyone else — god forbid one of their favorite targets — this article would be dripping in snark and condescension, full of mean-spirited commentary with a click-baity headline, because “this isn’t a news site; it’s a blog,” and because the core story
