The Oscars is people!

I’ll add on to this by pointing out that by virtue of the fact that they are a reflection of the movie industry, the Oscars really have no responsibility to reflect the tastes of, or resonate with “audiences.”

Man I hate these takes.

Counterpoint: it was not, and it’s aged very well.

May I suggest the Razzies get it wrong by existing?

Superman killed me pretty hard-core” is such a funny thing to say. Love this dude.

OK hold up - I love Saving Private Ryan and it deserved BP. But Shakespeare in Love is a GREAT flick. It’s a “they don’t make em like they used to” movie: it’s funny, well-written, well-acted, beautifully shot, and smart but crowd-pleasing. It’s so good that even Ben Affleck’s good in it! It’s also weird to single out

Movies take a long time to get made. A quick Wikipedia shows that SiL was originally written in the late 80s and first went into production in 1991, right after Pretty Woman.

Not going to argue with the selection, going to argue with the “hear me out” tone.

Yeah was sitting in front of Trump supporters who said Rock and Chappelle were their favorite comedians. He told a few Hillary jokes they were hooting and hollering at, then told like the tamest Trump joke I ever heard and mildly supported Biden and they were silent the rest of the routine. Don’t think they realized

Saw him live in Vegas. Was ok but pretty uninspired material. Very tame I thought. No real desire to see this, but it’s so weird how comedy routines from certain folks have become socio-political sounding boards for the Very Online and no one actually judges to see if they succeed as comedy!

Like Fallon. “I’m trying so desperately to pretend that this segment is about you, guest who is supposed to be featured.

LOL! I like him, but I know exactly what you mean.

After listening to Hasan’s WTF interview, and listening to/reading him since, it’s been hard for me to enjoy him. Bit hard to explain, but he reminds me of a former friend of mine who’s very self-centered, and when you talk to him, he has this way of intensely engaging in an almost unnatural way, as if he’s

Yeah this is the main problem with modern South Park. It’s often just predictably on the nose, and they’ve been on long enough where they actually have previous episodes that handle a similar issue in a far more interesting, funny, or thoughtful way.

Didn’t they do a whole episode on Britney Spears from the other side of the argument? (That was rhetorical because, yes, they did)

Edit: My point being that they were being lazy and thoughtless on this one after getting it right in the past.

“No, it never happened. I would never do such a thing.”

Oof. That was pretty tone-deaf. You already know right off the bat it’s going to be a hagiography. Honestly, did we need this? It would be so easy NOT to make an MJ biopic.

“For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson,” yeah, shame about the kiddy fiddling.

The article briefly mentions it, but compression is a massive part of the problem if not the main issue. It doesn’t matter how good the TV is or how dark the room is, if a show is streaming-only and every scene is dark browns and greys at night in a snowstorm, then it’s gonna look like a heatmap until someone leaks a
