Wow, I watched this movie all the time and made everyone I knew watch it. I haven’t watched it in years so I’m curious if it holds up outside of the beautiful visuals (which I’m sure do). I had no idea it’s essentially a “lost” movie, which is such a shame.

Id also recommend Defending Your Life as a romcom that both honors and subverts the genre while being wrapped in a really fun high-concept fantastical package.

I’m a big romcom fan, but I have a bit of a different perspective.

I was only ever really familiar with her big hits (my favorite being Trouble way back), and recently decided to listen to a few of her albums. She’s so wordy! She reminded me of Eminem, always trying to fit in that extra lyric because they think it’s just too clever to take out. Felt so corny to me at times. Like

It's sad that such a serious subject is being tackled by ID, which can't help but sensationalize even when presented with a legitimate story. I don't agree with all her points, but yes, it's clear that the methods used by the directors are much more in the reality TV vein than serious documentary filmmaking.

The review specifically states that he subverts the concept of the magical Negro, but I wouldn’t even put him in the same sentence with the trope. And it’s especially silly to imagine it was at all in the filmmakers' heads considering Will Smith was supposed to play Neo.

Child acting = Child labor. It’s strange we gloss over that just because it’s creative. When children are viewed as coworkers, employees, underlings, etc. instead of children, bad shit happens.

It’s interesting, because I think the failures have been more on the high-profile organizational side - failures of organizations like Times Up. But I think it’s profoundly shifted the industry, even if it hasn’t unmasked every PoS in it (and there are a lot!). The people at the top will sadly always be more

Can these people go protest at like a fucking NASCAR race or Hummer convention or congressional session or something? This is such toothless, cowardly bullshit.

There’s been a push by the Jackson estate recently to rehabilitate his image post “Neverland”. I grew up with MJ, I fucking loved him and his music, and I understand separating art from artist. I even have my personal theory that all of his substantial childhood trauma resurfaced after the Pepsi hair incident and

Something was weird about all of this, and it feels like they were going to fire Barrera anyway and used the Palestinian stuff as a ridiculous smokescreen. Sequence of events is likely:

Tbh Gosling's never really found the right collaborator who understands how to maximize him. He could really use a Scorsese to his Leo - I don't think Wendng-Refn or Chazelle really "get" him. Sadly, I feel like Greta could've been that director, but she's going to be off with Narnia for a while.

It’s so wild that modern film discourse has Scorsese of all people as this crotchety old fun-hating cinema purist, just cause he said he doesn’t like Marvel movies.

It was cute, but also basically just him adapting his existing “The Fugitive” joke.

Lol this is so hilariously dumb it’s hard to know where to start, but it’s actually good to hear this from a director so people start to realize how stupid Netflix’s claims generally are. But 3 main points:

Y’all, you don’t even know if she’s going to talk a bunch about Mulaney in the book! From the blurb, its partly about her psychiatric care, and when it talks about the men her life, references: “unrequited love in high school; the twenty-eight-year-old she lost her virginity to when she was sixteen; the frustrations

Yeah it was really funny re: Bobby being given such a short shrift. Like essentially if you go on Queer Eye the real prize is a fucking 5-figure home renovation lol. Everything else is gravy.

Didn't say they were wrong, just don't get it. Though yes, clearly both the public and the execs picked her.

I legit don’t understand the acclaim for her acting — from both women and men, so it's not just her boobs. She’s so flat and breathy in everything I've seen her in. Feels like it's the Blake Lively effect - the pretty blonde girl in a show popular with the younger generation gets picked by the execs to be the next

Feels like Ethan has the wild imagination and obsession with dialects and Joel has the existential dread and visual sense and likely is a good editor of his brother’s wilder tendencies.
